SAN JOSE — November 2, 2026. San José’s no-cost Junk Pickup program allows renters and homeowners to schedule curbside removal of eligible bulky items through the city’s 311 system.

How much can be collected

The city says a pickup request may include up to 12 items, including mattresses, furniture and eligible appliances. Households in apartment and condominium buildings should coordinate with property management for proper staging.

How to schedule

Residents can use 311.SanJoseCA.gov or dial 3-1-1, with 408-535-3500 available as an alternative. The city says an appointment date confirmation generally arrives within two business days; the first automated request receipt does not itself confirm the pickup date.

Do not dump items early

Items should be placed at the curb no earlier than 24 hours before the confirmed appointment, without obstructing hydrants, traffic or driveways. Some hazardous or remodeling waste requires separate handling.
