SAN JOSE — November 2, 2026. San José Parks and Recreation manages reservable picnic areas at nine regional parks and more than 200 neighborhood parks, with additional rules for certain large or commercial gatherings.

A picnic permit is not a universal event license

The city says events advertised as open to the general public or involving tickets, food sales, merchandise sales, amplified music or temporary stages need a separate special-event application.

Parks have different amenities

The official directory offers reservable areas at Almaden Lake, Alum Rock, Kelley Park, Lake Cunningham, Emma Prusch Farm and other sites. Site capacity and accessibility must be checked individually.

How to reserve safely

Applicants can review the city’s live reservation pages and contact PicnicReservations@sanjoseca.gov. A park appearing on the availability directory is not proof that a specific date remains vacant or that commercial food service is authorized.
